Weaver and Tidwell’s Philip Spear Promoted to Director of State and Local Tax Services
DALLAS-FORT WORTH, TEXAS (Jan. 15, 2007) – Weaver and Tidwell announces the promotion of Philip B. Spear, CPA, to Director of State and Local Tax (SALT) Services . He joined the firm in September 2005 as senior manager. With offices in Dallas, Fort Worth and Houston, Weaver and Tidwell is ranked by Practical Accountant magazine as the Southwest’s largest regional independent accounting firm.
In his new position, Spear leads the firm’s SALT services group which addresses state income and franchise taxes, sales and use taxes, property tax, nexus, audit management and credits and incentives.
Spear has 22 years of experience in federal, state, and local tax matters. He has worked in the U.S. and abroad performing multi-state income and franchise tax minimization planning projects, multi-state sales/use tax planning projects, and due diligence for mergers and acquisitions. He has significant experience in supervising state income tax audits, sales/use tax audits, and reverse audits, as well as representing clients during contested state income tax audits.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Missouri – Kansas City and a master’s degree in accountancy from Boise State University.
