5/25/2007 - D. WAYNE TIDWELL, C.P.A.

FORT WORTH Dorman Wayne Tidwell, 85, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, May 25, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born poor on an Oklahoma farm on July 18, 1921, Mr. Tidwell spent his childhood in several small West Texas towns. He arrived at the University of Texas in Austin with $10 in his pocket and worked for his room and board by washing dishes 3 times a day for 75 men. After finishing at UT, Mr. Tidwell spent a short time in Tennessee, during which time he and his beloved Mozelle Stockton began their 63-year marriage on August 23, 1942. Shortly afterward, they moved to Fort Worth to stay.

In 1950, Lloyd Weaver approached Mr. Tidwell about forming an accounting partnership, thus beginning Weaver and Tidwell, which has grown to be the largest independent public accounting firm in the Southwest. Mr. Tidwell was known as a man with a great work ethic and of great integrity who had a special place in his heart for under- privileged people and who was prominent in the Fort Worth business scene until his retirement. Mr. Tidwell was a long-time member of the Southside Church of Christ, where he served as an elder for 33 years. Later he attended the Park Hill Church of Christ, and was currently a member of the Lakewood Village Church of Christ. In addition to many good works of faith, he served in a host of professional, educational, civic, and community-related chairmanships, presidencies, and foundings, winning friends from every segment of society. He has been honored in many ways, including being named as “Distinguished Business Leader” by the College of Business Administration of Abilene Christian University in 1994.

SURVIVORS: Mr. Tidwell was preceded in death by his wife, Mozelle in Sept., 2005. Survivors include three children, Mrs. Linda Hicks of Richland Hills, TX; Mr. David Tidwell of Longview, TX; and Mrs. Donna Stockton-Hicks of Austin, TX., as well as seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
