Entrepreneur Dumas Siméus, a native of Haiti who was educated in the United States and holds dual citizenship, has been at the helm of the $100 million food-processing company, Siméus Foods International, since 1996.
Among Siméus Foods’ top-tier clients are Quizno’s, Denny’s, Burger King, and T.G.I. Friday’s, who contract for high-quality products such as soups, sauces, beef patties, sausage, and breaded items such as fritters.
Siméus Foods and Weaver and Tidwell began their association after Siméus finished restructuring its business. When Larry Adcock, Chief Financial Officer, joined Siméus in 2004, one of his first obligations was to find an audit firm. The company interviewed five of the top firms in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and, says Adcock, “We really liked what we saw at Weaver and Tidwell. They weren’t the biggest or the smallest, but right away we felt very comfortable with them.”
Adcock says, “Brad [Weaver and Tidwell Partner] is very laid back, and I don’t feel at all shy about giving him a call about any issue. I try to run any major event through him to give him a heads-up because I want him to be as knowledgeable about the company during the planning as he will be during the audit.”
He continues, “We see Weaver and Tidwell as a team member, and have asked them to work with me and the senior accounting staff to keep them current on all the changes in the accounting arena that might affect the business, either positively or negatively.” He notes that Siméus Foods and Weaver and Tidwell “have worked closely on some very delicate financial issues” and how they related to the audit.
Adcock cites the importance of being on the cutting edge of GAAP information and says that Weaver and Tidwell fulfills that need and then some. He says, “I don’t like surprises, and I don’t like audit adjustments! Since we began with Weaver and Tidwell, there have been no audit adjustments, and that’s the way I like to operate.”
He adds, “Based on our experience thus far, we anticipate a long-term relationship with Weaver and Tidwell. We have a great working relationship - top to bottom.”
