Sarbanes-Oxley compliance engagement leads to referrals

Dallas-headquartered Capital Southwest (www.capitalsouthwest.com; 972-233-8242), a publicly-owned business development company with total assets exceeding $500 million, turned to Weaver and Tidwell in 2004 for Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 compliance services.

Acting as an internal auditor, Weaver and Tidwell examines the company’s internal controls to ensure the compliant preparation of financial statements, says Bruce Zaret, a partner with Weaver and Tidwell’s risk advisory service practice.

“The scope and depth of Weaver and Tidwell’s services has expanded ahead of our needs,” observes Capital Southwest President and CEO Gary L. Martin. “Their responses have been prompt, reliable and economically efficient.”

Martin is further impressed by both Weaver and Tidwell’s deliverables and staff. “The firm’s quality of work has always met our expectations, and the responsiveness of their team members and partners is exceptional,” he adds.

Subsequently, Capital Southwest has referred the firm to certain of their portfolio companies, including Heelys, Inc., makers of lightweight athletic shoes with a single wheel housed in the heel that are popular with children, tweens and teens ages 6 to 14. Weaver and Tidwell provides Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 compliance services to Heelys, and generates a full independent audit for one of Capital Southwest’s controlled affiliates, Media Recovery Inc. (MRI ).

“It is always a pleasure to hear the very positive remarks made each year about the wisdom of our reference,” Martin notes.

Martin, who finds level of expertise at Weaver and Tidwell to be consistently well aligned to the needs of his company, particularly appreciates the continuity of staff at the firm’s Dallas office.

“Weaver and Tidwell appears to fully understand the expanding needs of their clients, and plans accordingly to be a valued professional provider,” he says.
