Bob Sweeney, co-founder along with Hal P. Hughes, of Fort Worth’s R. E. Sweeney Company, brought his company’s accounting needs to Weaver and Tidwell in 1961—and has been a client ever since.
Sweeney attributes “a good bit” of the success of his company—which wholesales lumber and building materials, manufactures roof and floor trusses, and crafts basic to elaborate door designs—to following recommendations made by Weaver and Tidwell over the past 45-plus years.
“I just can’t say enough good things about Weaver and Tidwell,” says Sweeney. “They have anticipated nearly every need we’ve ever had, and they have given us incredibly good advice and guidance over the years.”
Sweeney and his company have relied on Weaver and Tidwell for a variety of services, including corporate tax compliance and planning, personal tax compliance and planning, estate tax planning and assistance in planning the company’s transition to the next generation of owners. Weaver and Tidwell also recommended and worked with Sweeney to develop and implement an employee stock ownership plan.
“They handle everything for us,” Sweeney notes. “Whenever we need to know something, they see to it that we do know it.”
The personal relationship Sweeney has developed over the years with Weaver and Tidwell’s associates, particularly Mark Walker and Mack Lawhon, partners at the Firm, is something he greatly values.
“I am so glad that we didn’t stick with one of the big national firms,” he says. “I’m sure we would have had a decent relationship with them, but I don’t think it would have approached the personal supervision and the recommendations that we’ve gotten from personally knowing Mark, Mack and their colleagues as well as we have.”
Additionally, Sweeney has recommended the firm to friends, family and colleagues at least a half-dozen times over the years. “They’ve gone to Weaver and Tidwell and have subsequently thanked me for the recommendation. I can’t recommend anybody more solidly than that.”
